And there I was

So I finally arrived in my place. After two days of bustling around, I finally got water, gas, electricity,…. and INTERNET! In the mean time I was just walking around and checking out the area. Now this time of year is very popular for Cherry Blossoms, so I figured I go check out this park which is about a 30 minute walk from my place. I came to find out that a park in the conventional sense is nothing at all like I thought. It was MASSIVE like, hugely huge. We are talking: Three Soccer Fields, Two Baseball Fields, and Three Tracks. Of course this is excluding the cool Cherry Blossom Garden and the sweet Kids’ Mystery Forest! I was blown out of the water. I checked out a baseball game, chilled with a few families in the garden… and almost played on the slides! It was pretty cool.

Tomorrow is my first day at work. I get to meet all the teachers from the six schools I will be working. I go to two Junior Highs, one every week, and an different elementary school once a week. The schedule looks pretty intense, but not as bad as I was thinking. Honestly, when I saw four elementary schools I started preparing all my lessons for that! Now I have to go back and kind of plan for Junior High instead. Oh well. All in all, it’s going to be interesting and I do have some photos to get up here… or at acornsandgold,… whenever I finish that, for now you will get them here when I am done with them!

Coming and Going

Here’s a post,… sort of dedicated to Sanjiv. So what’s “Good Bye.” I won’t get all philosophical, but in reality is good bye a symbol for the end? Some people think so, kind of like a “Sayonara Mato san.” In reality I am not leaving, but I’ll be around in the memories you have of me and vice versa. No worries, the next time we meet there will be more to be had. It’s a little difficult to explain my thinking at the moment but let’s see how you fair after this.

What is good bye to you? Sit there, think on it. Good,…. Bye. What’s so good about it? I’ll tell you, I left you with memories you will never forget and the anticipation that more will come! Keep in touch with me and I will always do the same.

Japan here I come, am I ready? Toujours la chance, beaucoups de langues melangent dans la tete. Pas possible d’expliquer. Peut-etre une journee je vais comprendre. A ce moment je suis content d’habiter la vie quand meme. Merci tout le monde. Ganbatte mina!

So I haven’t really written much, minus my last post on the 7th. I figure I will give an update and get some things rolling. Even though hardly anyone,… if anyone, check this thing I must continue! So I started building websites… why? I have no real clue honestly. I start from visual conception to and end with the final realization found on what we know as the www. The first product of design actually has scored me a second job already and I am super stoked! What’s more, I can do this from anywhere in the world! I am also working with a third group on a third website. To say the least, things have really picked up for me and I could make some serious progress in the world of business!

I really don’t think my first website was amazing, but apparently my client loved it so I am very pleased. If you are at all interested, check it out! A new webpage may be in the works for Acorns and Gold to help promote this new found business. Here’s the place you need to go: Lora Sings.

The 7th

So, lately I have been preparing my exodus,… well not so much an exodus, but my transition to Japan. It has been a trying month and a half filled with visits, packing, trashing, and starting many things. Through all of it I have been a little lost and just have not had time to really see everyone. I was lucky enough that a group of friends at URI decided to throw me a party on the 7th. It was honestly one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me and I will never forget it. In all reality, I don’t see it as the end, but merely the beginning. Most of the people that were there, were in fact people I will probably see within the coming months. Sure I am moving far away, so you may be asking, “how can he see them so soon?” Well the truth is most of these people have plans to travel to my part of the world this summer or live in the area and will be moving back there come the end of the semester. A little ironic that they throw me a going away party, but it was amazing and I still hope to see them all one last time before I make the long haul to east Asia.

GlowKid

Lately I have been pretty busy picking up international students, building websites, and looking for work. My New Year has been a hectic one thus far! I enjoy it and can’t wait for challenges to come. Speaking of building websites I am currently working with a band (taking photographs and building sites). They have an up and coming show, Saturday the 24th. Anyone in the Providence area should go and check it out! They are playing at the AS220 with: Neo Nouveau, Anisette, and Candace Brooks Band. I will surely be found there taking pictures, so come on out, say hi, and check out some of the local music New England has to offer.

Hello 2009!!

Welcome to 2009!! Woo! So as I mentioned before, new stuff is on the way. Not only my new site still in the planning stages, but another site for a local band hoping to hit it big one day! I am currently in the drawing stages for both sites but I am hoping to have both of them up and running before the end of the month. With that said, the band I am helping out is none other than Glowkid! They are band coming straight out of RI and have a load of talent. Their next show is coming up on January 24th at the AS220. Impressionnant ou pas?

I guess my personality has dulled in the past few years. I know that friendships come and go as much as everything else does on this earth, but it’s a little unnerving. I guess maybe I’m not as “impressionnant” as before. It has certainly been hard, but I give it my best shot anyways. I try to use these websites as a means to recollect as well as spread my thoughts to everyone that takes the time to read it. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong direction. Lately things have been hard hitting and I can only imagine they will get worse with my move coming due soon. I wonder what things will be like for me when I do finally leave here. I guess I will have to wait and see.

Portfolio

I know I am not the best photographer out there but I have decided to push forward and actually pursue my interest in photography. I have recently started creating a new site to form a portfolio of my work. I’m not sure anyone reads this yet, or will , but I figured I would reach out and ask for opinions on how it should be organized. It will conjoin with this site becoming a sort of sister site. Originally when I built my two sites one was to host photos and the other depict my adventures for my friends to read. It’s no face book, so it’s hard to compete for people’s time when my site doesn’t allow such networking but I’m hoping my venture to revitalize my sites will get people to keep in touch with me as much as I desire to stay in touch with them. Eventually there will be a French log written as well, and maybe Chinese if I ever come to in the language. For now, minimatt.com will remain the main site. On the other hand, acornsandgold.com will most likely be taken down permanently and replaced by a site that will remain undisclosed at the moment till more is completed. This secondary site will be a true portfolio of photos and art work I have made whether they be recent adventures or crazy inpsirations. What are your thoughts? Feel free to e-mail me, I am sure you all know where to reach me, if not leave messages here.

A photo worth a friendship

I am trying to discern the importance or link between a photo and a friendship. Of course photos can show the bond between friends, the link to life and the excitement it provides for us. What of those situations where people make photos an extreme, a hate or a love? Do we find it bothersome? What happens when someone wants you to delete a photo they hate but seems to depict their happiness? What do we do in such a conundrum? The lines are thin here. I hold photography as a great hobby and graphical display of the diversity in life. Why should we delete what we remember in our heads?

New York, New York

This weekend was one crazy weekend. Met some great people, did some networking, and spent time in good company all while in the great city of NY. I can’t really express it because it was spent in three languages and a mess of crazy fun such as my search for cheesecake! I have new inspirations and even created aspirations! I am looking forward to my future life and have become a little more thoughtful as to what my life may develop in to. This all came from talking with the resident Frenchman, Canadian, Norwegian and fellow American. More will come to follow, as my thoughts begin to settle from crazy shaking that has occurred this weekend.
