I never really thought about it much before till I got here. People in the US do the same,… just not to the same extent. I was riding the train the other day and was listening to my music. I took a look around the train and say maybe half the people doing the same while the other half were either asleep or completely enthralled with their phones. That’s when I put away my headphones…
People are so lost in the world they have created that they are missing everything that is happening around them. Even I am guilty of it most of the time. I am starting to unplug myself and listen to everyday occurrences that go on. I know Tim C. would probably disagree, but something as simple as the birds chirping can be relaxing. I enjoy it, much more than my music anyway. I wonder if I am missing something.
I agree… sometimes you just need to take a step back from technology. It’s odd because it makes you wonder how disconnected society will be 5 maybe 10 years from now. On one hand technology allows me to comment on this page from the other side of the globe which is great, but at what cost, spending my time online as opposed to going outside and enjoying summertime with family and friends.
Sorry for my rant. I’m glad you still take the time to notice the little things that matter.
good post. It needs to be in big print somewhere. 🙂
@ Pat:
Very true. I have always thought about that stuff but it never came to mind what was sacrificed until recently. I get to enjoy a lot of outdoor activity here since there are so many new things!
@ Joy:
Heh, feel free to do it! It’s not copyrighted 😉
I definatel have to say this was my favorite part of traveling on trains….listening in on conversations…laughing to myself for the silly things people did and so on…but also on the other hand its nice to just zone out too…
